Kingston Fire and Rescue responds to home fire on Bath Road early this morning – Kingston | Globalnews.ca

Kingston Fire and Rescue says a fire broke out in a house in the west end of the city at around 5:30 a.m. Thursday.

Chief fire prevention officer Ted Posadowski says firefighters from three stations responded at the Bath Road home.

“Around 30 firefighters took part. There was heavy smoke and flames and it was from the west side of the house and that’s where we think the fire started,” Posadowski told Global Kingston.

According to Posadovsky, there were two residents in the house at the time of the fire.

“There were no casualties, they escaped safely,” Posadovsky said.

Posadowski says an unidentified passerby knocked on the door, waking and alerting two residents about a fire in the house, but the man didn’t stick around and firefighters weren’t sure who they were.

According to Posadowski, it took Kingston Fire and Rescue about an hour to put out the house fire, and Bath Road from Collins Bay Road to Coverdale Drive was closed to the public for about three hours.

Kingston Fire and Rescue estimates damage to the home at $375,000 and says the cause of the fire cannot be determined at this time due to extensive damage and structural instability where the fire started.
