Tyson Fury reveals date for Oleksandr Usyk rematch after defeat

The Briton was defeated by the Ukrainian by split decision and suffered a controversial and crucial countout in the ninth round, narrowly missing a stoppage.

But both fighters had the option to fight again if they lost and Fury immediately confirmed his intentions and revealed what month the fight would take place.

“I won that fight in my opinion,” Fury said. “I think he won some of those rounds but I won most of them.

“Their country is at war, so people are taking the country’s side in the war.

“We go back to our families and we drive it back in October. Sure, we’ll take a rest, then come back to it in October, I thought I won the battle but I’m not going to cry and make excuses.

While Usyk refused to immediately commit to a rematch, the fight was almost certainly not for the undisputed heavyweight title crown, with governing bodies prepared to call for a mandatory title defense by the rankings.

“I was planning this since 2008. It was a big opportunity for me and my country Slava Ukraine. It’s a good time and a good day. It’s not about me winning,” Usyk said.

“This is for my God, my supporters, my country, Ukrainian soldiers, Ukrainian mothers and fathers, children.

“I want to go home, I want to rest, take a vacation, I want to eat, sleep, kiss my wife.”

The timeline for the rematch may be affected by the fighters’ recovery time.

According to Fury, Usyk may have suffered a broken jaw after going to the hospital with a suspected broken jaw.

Fury said: “We’ve just had a fight, as you can see by my face, I’m very upset and he’s gone to hospital with a broken jaw and he’s also injured.

“We punched each other for 12 rounds. So we’re going to go home, eat some food, drink some beer, spend some family time, walk our dog, go to the tip and Frank and I will talk about what’s going to happen in the future.
