american actor Kevin Spacey He was granted bail on Thursday during his first appearance in a London court as authorities charged him with five offences, including four cases of sexual harassment
During a brief procedural hearing, Spacey spoke to confirm his name, date of birth and London address, and his next hearing was set for July 14.
His lawyer told the court that he would need to return to the United States between court dates to work and see his family, when he was granted unconditional bail.
The “House of Cards” actor, 62, was charged last month with four counts of sexual assault against three men, as well as a fifth of engaging in sexual activity involving a man entering without consent.
Spacey’s attorney told the court that he “strongly denies” all allegations of criminality.
The actor, dressed in a light blue suit, dark tie and glasses, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday and was met by a large crowd of journalists and photographers.
The charges against him include two counts of sexual assault against a man in London in 2005; 2008 also the third count of sexual assault in London against a different person; and a final count against an individual in Gloucestershire, western England in 2013. The fifth allegation of non-consensual penetrative activity also pertains to the 2013 incident.
London’s Metropolitan Police said the alleged victims of the 2005 incidents are now in their 40s, while the two men allegedly involved in the 2008 and 2013 incidents are now in their 30s.
Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service authorized charges against Spacey in late May, but the charges could not be formally enforced until Monday, while he was in the United Kingdom.
Spacey has won two Academy Awards for his roles in “The Usual Suspects” and “American Beauty” and was artistic director of London’s Old Vic Theater from 2003 to 2015.
He has also starred in the Netflix political series ‘House of Cards’ and has returned to acting in the past year.
