Five members of a family, including two children, were killed when a tipper collided with an autorickshaw in Karnataka’s Mandya district on Friday. The family was returning from the temple when the incident took place.
The incident took place at Nelamakanahalli gate around 6.30 pm when the family was returning from a temple. The deceased have been identified as Bandura gram panchayat president Muttamma (45), his daughter Basammani (30), son Venkatesh (25) and Basammani’s children Chamundeshwari (8) and Chandrasekhar (2).
The victims were returning to Bandur in Malavalli taluk of Mandya district. A tipper going from Malavalli towards Maddur hit the autorickshaw from ahead. The intensity of the accident damaged the autorickshaw. It took a long time to get the victims out of the autorickshaw before they were taken to the hospital by passersby.
Police said prima facie it appears that the incident took place due to speeding by both the drivers. Venkatesh was driving the autorickshaw at the time of the incident. Malavalli rural police said they are probing whether it was just a human error or a technical snag caused the accident.
