Kanpur Commissioner Aseem Arun demanded VRS to contest the election as a BJP candidate. Kanpur News – Times of India – India Times English News

LUCKNOW: Hours after the model code of conduct for the assembly elections came into force, the first interesting announcement in the state’s political circles came from the police quarters when Kanpur Police Commissioner Aseem Arun announced on Facebook that he volunteered from the Indian Police Service. (IPS). Applied for Retirement Scheme (VRS) and thanked Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for considering him eligible to become a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Though Asim Arun had formally announced to apply for VRS only, sources said that the BJP was already considering fielding him as the party’s candidate from the Kannauj Sadar assembly constituency. Asim Arun, a 1994-batch IPS, has enjoyed the reputation of being an innovative officer, where his master’s degree in policy studies from the University of British Columbia came in handy.
Asim Arun was the head of 112 services and ATS before taking over as the first police commissioner of Kanpur. He has also served as SP in Garhwal (then under UP), Balrampur, Hathras, Siddharthnagar, Aligarh, Gorakhpur and Agra. He has also taken a commando training course in the National Security Guard (NSG) and served as a part of a security team close to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his tenure as the SP Special Protection Group (SPG).
Government sources confirmed that Arun has given his application for VRS. “As per the provisions of seeking VRS, the applicant is relieved of his duties after three months of applying for it. But Aseem Arun has requested the government to relieve him by January 15.
Bureaucrats familiar with the VRS process said that though once an application is made, it is the prerogative of the government to relieve anyone from duty on any date. “There are many instances where the government has not waited for a period of three months,” an official said.
In his statement posted on Facebook, Aseem Arun said that he has asked for VRS because he wants to serve the country and society in a different way. Asim’s statement said, “I feel very honored that respected Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ji has found me suitable to become a member of BJP.”
Asim says that he will use his discipline and experience to serve the party in different branches of the police and will be a supporter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative to bring together people with different experiences and expertise. “I will try to follow the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi to stand up for the weakest and poorest of the society. Serving as an IPS officer and now this honor has been made possible because of the system of ‘uniformity of opportunity’ which has been made possible due to Babasaheb Ambedkar,” Asim says in his post.
After paying respects to his late parents father Shriram Arun, who was a former DGP of UP and mother Shashi Arun, who passed away a few months back, Asim sought blessings to end his post on an emotional note. Thanking him said that he is the only thing. You will miss wearing the uniform.
