During the more than eight-hour speech, McCarthy called the bill “the most reckless and irresponsible spending bill in the history of our nation”.
The bill includes provisions for Universal Pre-K, expanded Medicare access to hearing aid, four weeks of paid family and medical leave, reductions in child care costs, and a range of measures to tackle climate change.
McCarthy’s speech was off topic.

Several Democratic lawmakers also ridiculed McCarthy’s speech.
Rep. Grace Meng tweeted, ‘I gave birth to a baby in a short time.’ ‘Now step aside and give real change to American families, like paid leave and babysitting.’
Representative Jamie Ruskin joked, ‘We’re hearing rumors that the front line of GOP hostages behind Kevin McCarthy are asking if he can be censured in return.’
Republican Representative Paul Goser was condemned by the House earlier this week after tweeting an anime video that showed him hitting out at Ocasio-Cortez and attacking Biden.
