January 6 Committee issues summons for Kimberly Gilfoy

Gilfoy’s summons comes after an unfortunate attempt by the committee to voluntarily cooperate. Gilfoy appeared via video conference for a statement on February 25, but abruptly called off the proceedings because she was unhappy that committee members were participating in the statement.

In a statement, Gilfoy’s lawyer claimed that the committee had violated the terms of its agreement by allowing committee members to be part of the session and leaking news of the interview to the media.

The committee replied that they had made no such arrangement and refused to inform the media about his presence. They also made it clear that they were going to take steps to force her to cooperate. A promise which he fulfilled by issuing summons on Thursday.

“Since Ms. Gilfoy departed from her original commitment to provide a voluntary interview, we are issuing today’s subpoena that will compel her to testify. We expect her to comply with the law and cooperate, Committee Chairman Benny Thompson, Mississippi Democrat, said in a statement.

The Committee is interested in the role played by Gilfoy in the events leading up to January 6, 2021. He is accused of playing a key role in raising funds for the rallies that drew Trump supporters to Washington that day. Guilfoyle was also in the Oval Office with members of the Trump family on the morning of January 6. The committee believes she may have been privy to Trump’s conversations and has been a witness to how she conducted herself that day.

The committee has already obtained Guilfoyle’s phone records through a summons.
