A coin that decides the fate of three people. This story is no less than a film plot. The incident is from Sakleshpur taluk of Hassan district of Karnataka.

According to News18, the story started a year ago when a 27-year-old man from a village in Sakleshpur bumped into a 20-year-old woman from a neighboring village and started dating her. Six months later, he met another woman from another village and a ‘friendship’ blossomed. He regularly met both the women.

However, the women were not aware that the man was doing them twice.

Trouble started when a relative saw the man with a woman, who informed his father.

The family members clashed with the woman over her. He said that he loved her and wanted to marry her.

The family disagreed and decided to settle her marriage with someone else.

When a woman came to know about this she told her family that she wanted to marry him.

The woman’s family visited the man’s house and told about the affair they learned from their daughter.

Meanwhile, the other woman also came to know what was going on and her family also reached the man’s house. The man’s parents got upset seeing both the women. By then the whole village had come to know about the love triangle.

A panchayat was convened and both the women had a long debate. But the man didn’t say a word. Panchayat could not decide. Frightened by the grief of being cheated, the first lady tried to commit suicide by consuming poison. Thankfully his life was saved in time.

The second panchayat was called on 4 September. Families of both men and women were present. A lawyer was also called for the three parties to come to an agreement on a stamp paper stating that the decision of the panchayat would be final. Also, no one will go to the police, the court or the media, even if the verdict is not in their favour. All three parties agreed.

It was completely decided that the Panchayat would toss a coin to decide which woman should marry the man. Until that moment, the person had not expressed his wish or discussed his decision. Now, there are two versions about what happened in the panchayat, though both point to the same conclusion.

The first version says that the toss played in favor of the first lady (who tried to commit suicide) and the man agreed to marry her. There is a second version which says that the man finally decided and chose the first woman who was ready to die when he found out that she could not marry him.

Once this decision was made, the man moved towards the woman and hugged her in front of the panchayat.

But another woman, who was a mere spectator to all this, came forward, wished the woman but slapped and warned the man before leaving the place.
