A tornado warning issued by Environment Canada for London and the Middlesex region has expired but a heat warning remains in effect.
The advisory, issued around 6:40 p.m. and dropped around 7:18 p.m., said a severe storm was tracking southwestern Ontario and “possibly causing a tornado.”
The warning was lifted by the agency for Stratoy, Comoka and western Middlesex counties around 7 p.m.
About 20 minutes later it was dropped in London, Parkhill and East Middlesex.
A tornado warning was also issued after 8 p.m. for St. Thomas, Aylmer and eastern Elgin counties, but was lifted by Environment Canada shortly afterwards.
A tornado warning was in effect for the Sarnia-Lambton region, but was lifted at 6:52 p.m., the second day of the day in the county when the warning was dropped from 5 p.m. to about 5:20 p.m.
This was about two months ago when a strong thunderstorm involving a derecho passed through southern Ontario, two tornadoes hit the city within minutes of each other.
No casualties were reported, but the storm caused significant damage and kept thousands of people in the city in darkness for hours, some even days.
