#Kolkata: Calcutta High Court grants conditional permission for Gangasagar Mela, said a division bench of Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court (Calcutta High Court order on Gangasagar Mela).

However, the High Court has stipulated several strict conditions for compliance with the COVID rules in allowing the Mela (Gangasagar Mela 2022). The High Court has also constituted a three-member committee to see whether all these directions of the High Court are being followed in organizing the fair. The committee will consist of the Chairman or his representative of the Human Rights Commission, the Leader of the Opposition or his representative and the Chief Secretary of the State.

The members of this committee will check daily whether the directions of the High Court are being followed in the fair. If any condition is not fulfilled or the situation gets out of control, the Committee shall have the right to cancel the Mela forthwith.

In the current Kovid situation, a doctor named Abhinandan Mandal had filed a public interest litigation in the High Court demanding closure of Gangasagar Mela. After the High Court’s decision, he said, ‘The question remains whether the fair can be organized by fulfilling the conditions. What are the conditions laid down by the High Court? Our goal was to stop the death march. ,
