Heatwave in Northwest India to continue till June 13

Heat wave conditions persisted over parts of Northwest and Central India on Saturday, though the area of ​​influence reduced slightly.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that heat wave conditions will continue for two days in isolated areas of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand.

On Saturday, heat wave conditions prevailed over parts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh, where Banda was the hottest place in the country at 46.2 degrees Celsius.

At least 22 towns and cities in these states recorded maximum temperatures above 44 degrees Celsius.

Northwest and central India are in the grip of heat wave since June 2 due to the onslaught of hot and dry westerly winds.

IMD senior scientist RK Jenamani said the maximum temperatures in Delhi-NCR and other parts of northwest India will drop by a few degrees over the weekend, but no major relief is likely till June 15.

The IMD said that the easterly winds filled with moisture will give a lot of relief from the scorching heat from June 16.

The IMD official said that pre-monsoon activity has been predicted over East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha from June 12, but north Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and North Madhya Pradesh will see above-normal temperatures. ,

The Meteorological Department said that there is no possibility of any significant change in the maximum temperature in Northwest India during the next four days.

The IMD said in an extended range forecast that between June 16 and June 22, maximum temperatures are likely to remain “normal to normal to below normal”.

“No significant heatwave likely over any part of the country during the week (June 16-June 22),” it said.
