Haven’t seen it like this: Twitter in shock after Virat Kohli quits Test captaincy – India Times Hindi News

Virat Kohli on Saturday resigned as the Test captain of Team India after the 1-2 series loss to South Africa. Kohli posted a note on Twitter where he announced his decision. The 33-year-old ended up as the most successful Test captain in Indian cricket history. He captained India in 63 matches, out of which India emerged victorious in 40. Under his leadership, India registered their first Test series win on Australian soil and also played the ICC World Test Championship final for the first time.

“It takes 7 years of hard work, hard work and relentless dedication everyday to take the team in the right direction. I have worked honestly and left nothing there. Everything has to be done on some level. Will have to stop and for me as India’s Test captain, it is now.

Earlier, last year, Kohli had relinquished the T20I captaincy after the ICC T20 World Cup and was later sacked as the ODI captain as the selectors wanted a single captain for the white-ball formats. Rohit Sharma was named the captain of India’s white-ball formats. Meanwhile, no one was expecting Kohli to step down from the Test captaincy post this time as his latest announcement shook the cricketing world.

The BCCI also took to Twitter to congratulate Kohli on his stint as the captain of Team India.

“BCCI congratulates #TeamIndia captain @imVkohli for his commendable leadership qualities that took the Test team to unprecedented heights. He has led India in 68 matches and has been the most successful captain with 40 wins.

Former cricketers and fans were in a tizzy on social media after Kohli stepped down as Test captain.

In the recently concluded Test series against South Africa, Kohli faced a lot of criticism for his remarks on the broadcasters during the final Test match in Cape Town. After a controversial DRS decision, he went to the stump mic and said, “Focus on your team, not just the opposition. Trying to catch people all the time.” The 33-year-old faced backlash from fans and former cricketers for his unnecessary comments.
