Pro Football Hall of Fame center Kevin Mawes was named the successor to Super Bowl champion quarterback Trent Dilfer as head coach of Lipscomb Academy. in Tennessee.
The high school made its official announcement on Tuesday.

“It is an honor to return to Tennessee and coach the Lipscomb Academy football team,” Mawe said in a news release. “I am excited to serve and lead these outstanding youth both on the field and in the community. I have had many coaches in my life and have shaped me into the person I am today, and this is an opportunity to Invest in the lives of others through the lessons they teach and a sport I love so much. God has brought me to this point in my journey and I look forward to how He continues to live in the lives of our players, coaches and this program will work. Try to glorify Him in everything we do.”
Mow was an assistant offensive line coach with the Indianapolis Colts before taking on the new gig.
The former center, who just celebrated his 52nd birthday, played in the NFL for 16 seasons. He played for the Seattle Seahawks from 1994 to 1997 new york jets from 1998 to 2005 and the Tennessee Titans from 2006 to 2009.

He was an eight-time Pro Bowler, a three-time All-Pro selection, and was named to the Hall of Fame All-2000 team.
“Due to Lipscomb Academy’s outstanding reputation and nationally recognized football program, we had an incredible level of experienced candidates who were interested in leading the program,” said Brad Schultz, Lipscomb Academy Head of School.
“The talent and hard work of our players has advanced our football program, and we look forward to many more successes in the future.”
Lipscomb Academy recently won its fifth state championship and finals with Dilfer as head coach.
