Former Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Tuesday attended the foundation stone laying ceremony of a Swaminarayan temple in Abu Dhabi and tweeted pictures of the same. He expressed pride in participating in the celebrations of a Hindu temple on a foreign land, which was the dream of late Pramukh Swami Maharaj of Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS), spreading “Hindu rites and culture”. A close aide of Rupani said the former CM was in Abu Dhabi for a day to attend the ceremony and was back in Gujarat.

Chief Justice Arvind Kumar is in no mood to encourage advocates seeking time or adjournment citing “personal reasons” or unreasonable sick notes. Last month, in a petition for compensation to evicted slum dwellers for the bullet train project, Justice Kumar refused to list the matter on an extended date on the request of the petitioner’s counsel, who had cited “personal hardship”. Reminding the lawyer that “the work of the court was the most important”, he said, “unless you say that you are getting married tomorrow (then), we will allow (extension).” In another case, Justice Kumar held that “sick leave notes” or “leave notes” were not admissible and were merely “notes”.

During his Bhavnagar visit last month, President Ram Nath Kovind visited Chitrakootdham, the ashram of spiritual guru Moraridas Hariyani alias Morari Bapu in Talgajarda village. He also inaugurated 1,088 affordable houses constructed by Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation. In a public ceremony, the President handed over the keys to the new houses to some of the beneficiaries. On the occasion of Gujarat’s New Year, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Wednesday organized a lunch for journalists at the Ministerial Enclave in Gandhinagar. senior BJP Party officials were present but party president CR Patil was clear of their absence. A party source said that it is not necessary that he attend the function. Sources said the invitees included Patil, general secretary (organisation) Ratnakar, four general secretaries- Vinod Chavda, Bhargava Bhatt, Pradeep Singh Vaghela and Rajni Patel, spokesperson Yamal Vyas, deputy spokesperson Kishor Makwana and Bharat Dangar and media coordinator Yajnesh Vyas. Patil, Ratnakar and Chavda were absent among them.
