Government will start reforms in special healthcare

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Sunday decided to launch strategic research and development reforms in specialized health care.

Salman Sufi, head of the Prime Minister’s Strategic Reform Unit, said in a press statement on Sunday that these reforms will include assistance and an increase in the number of institutions for local development of specialized equipment for cerebral palsy, prosthetics and assistive devices.

In addition, special music-based education will be introduced for patients with cognitive impairment, he said.

Under the above reforms, low cost special wheel chairs and other accessories will be manufactured at the local level so that these essential items can be easily available to the common citizens.

Sufi said the government would also take steps to subsidize these items.

Earlier, the PM announced the launch of a national initiative to impart life saving skills to the people, especially the youth, so as to save precious lives.

The Prime Minister directed to launch a nationwide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training campaign on an urgent basis,” he said, adding that the nationwide CPR training was the first in a series of health sector development initiatives.
