13-year-old girl rescued from sex trafficking during Canton traffic stop, say officials

Atlanta, Ga. (CBS46) – A 16-year-old girl has been arrested and a 13-year-old girl is back with her family after a traffic stop in Cherokee County, according to police.

According to the news release, just before 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, an officer operated a traffic stop on North Street near Railroad Street after seeing a driver holding his cell phone while driving.

When asked for identification, the woman driver could not provide driving license or identification, due to which the officer obtained her name and date of birth.

Upon driving the vehicle registration, the officer learned that the 2014 Dodge Caravan was being driven by what was reported to be stolen from North Carolina.

Police found 13 THC vape cartridges, three vape pens, a THC nerds rope and “a large amount of lingerie” during a search of the fan, according to police.

Investigators were then called to the scene, and they determined that the female passenger was a 13-year-old who was a victim of human trafficking and kidnapping, police said, and officers and detectives determined that the driver was taking the victim to another state.

The female driver was arrested and charged with smuggling, kidnapping, providing false information, theft, unlawful use of a wireless device and possession of a controlled substance.

Police said it was later discovered that the woman driver was actually a 16-year-old teenager after getting her real identity.

He is currently in custody at a regional youth detention centre.
