Lahore: Dismissing speculations of early elections, the coalition government on Tuesday announced that the assemblies would complete their constitutional term.

The announcement was made during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. The decision came after the PML-N suffered defeat in the Punjab bypolls on 20 constituencies on July 17 against PTI.

The PTI won 15 seats, while the PML-N managed to win only four seats and an independent candidate won one.

The meeting was held to discuss the future course of action and the reasons for the defeat of the PML-N.

According to sources, the coalition government decided that early elections are not a good option.

Sources said the parties have also decided to make efforts to save the chief minister’s post in Punjab.
