East Delhi civic body allows area workers to issue challans to prevent dengue spread

In view of the increasing number of dengue cases in East Delhi, the civic body has decided that senior field personnel will also be empowered to issue challans for the next two months.

Currently only inspectors and health officials have such powers.

A senior official of the East Delhi Municipal Corporation said that to overcome the shortage of staff, the officials have been ordered to transfer the Nala Beldars of their respective areas to the Public Health Department.

In a meeting with the senior officers to review the work being done for the prevention of vector borne disease, the officers asked the Commissioner to empower the senior field personnel to issue challans so that the breeding of mosquitoes can be controlled effectively. . The officer said that Commissioner Vikas Anand has accepted the proposal.

According to a civic report on dengue cases released on Monday, one person has died, and 723 cases have been reported this season till October 16, the highest since 2018 for the same period. East Delhi recorded 83 cases this year, of which 27 were in the last week alone.

In Delhi alone, 243 new cases have been reported in the last one week.
