Delhi University students protest demanding resumption of offline classes

Members of the Students Federation of India (SFI), All India Students Association (AISA) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Monday demanded the reopening of the university for students and classes at the North Campus of the University of Delhi (DU). protested. In an order last week, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) had allowed all educational institutions to reopen with 100% attendance following COVID-appropriate behaviour. While the Jawaharlal Nehru University, a central university like DU, reopened on Monday, the final decision on the latter’s reopening is still pending.

Several DU students and student leaders boycotted online classes on Monday, demanding the resumption of physical classes.

The SFI, in an official statement, said its members would sit on an indefinite dharna outside the vice-chancellor’s office along with members of other student organizations till the assurance of reopening the university.

Earlier in the day the students marched towards the VC office and symbolically closed the gate of the VC office. They also broke the barricades put up by the police. The students met the proctor of the university and sought a deadline for reopening.

AISA later called upon all students to boycott classes and join protests against the administration on Tuesday afternoon.
