Delhi: Patient’s relatives beat up 3 doctors after baby dies during C-section

Three doctors of Pitampura hospital were allegedly harassed and assaulted by family members of a pregnant woman after her baby died during an emergency C-section on Wednesday.

Police said the incident took place at the Kuber Hospital and Urology Center in northwest Delhi when the attackers had come to meet the woman. A case has been registered against 4-5 members of the family on the complaint of a doctor. Police said he was briefly detained before being released.

CCTV footage and videos of the incident posted on social media by doctors showed a group of men and women abusing a doctor. The doctor is seen walking near a room when family members scuffle with him. Later they are seen fighting and pushing each other. The doctors allege that the family also slapped another doctor and assaulted a female doctor.

DCP (Northwest) Usha Rangnani said, “We received a PCR call about the death of a newborn baby due to alleged medical negligence. At the hospital we found that a woman was admitted on Tuesday. She was over eight months old. She was pregnant and needed an emergency C-section.” Senior officials said that since the woman had some health complications, doctors performed a C-section, but the baby died. “There was a heated argument in the family and doctors They even tried to damage the hospital,” said DCP Rangnani.

Meanwhile, the body was sent to BSA Hospital for post-mortem. The injured doctors were taken to the same hospital and a medico-legal case was made.

Based on the complaint and the MLC, a case has been registered against the family members under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (grave hurt) of the IPC and section 4 of the Delhi Medicare Service Personnel and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage) it was done.
