Daska bypolls: ECP directs Punjab government to take action against 60 officials for ‘corrupt conduct’

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Election Commission on Thursday directed the Punjab government to take punitive action against 60 officials, after they were found guilty of “corrupt conduct” during a probe into Daska by-election rigging.

The ECP has demanded action against the then District Election Officer (DRO), 27 presiding officers, seven SHOs, former Deputy Commissioner of Sialkot Zeeshan Ahmed Lashari, District Police Officer (DPO) Sialkot Hasan Asad, former Assistant Commissioner of Daska, former Deputy Superintendent . Sambriel Police, Deputy Education Officer and others.

The ECP said the DRO, RO were found to have indulged in “corrupt conduct” and eight assistant education officers were found guilty of illegal practices during the investigation.

The ECP has directed the concerned officers to ensure that no election duty is assigned to these officers in future. The election body has also sought a report from the provincial government about the punitive action taken against the officials.
