Curiosity sparks growing demand for African art in the UAE

DUBAI: A group of 11 emerging artists from the Democratic Republic of the Congo recently displayed their work in a week-long exhibition titled “Breaking the Mould” – in a warehouse in Alserkal Avenue – Dubai’s arts district. The title was a reference to the efforts of the artists – all alumni of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kinshasa, the capital of the DRC – to escape the restrictions of their academic training.
