Cruise drugs case: NCB orders vigilance probe into ‘extortion’ allegations against Sameer Wankhede

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has ordered a vigilance inquiry against the Zonal Director. The investigation will be done by Dnyaneshwar Singh, Deputy Director General (DDG) of NCB at Headquarters, Northern Zone. Singh is also the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of the Federal Anti-Drugs Agency, news agency PTI reported.


“The independent witness circulated certain facts on social media through affidavit. Taking this cognizance, DG NCB has ordered vigilance to mark the investigation. NCB Deputy Director General Dnyaneshwar Singh said, “Further action will be decided based on the evidence.”

The witness, Prabhakar Cell, also claimed on Sunday that he had heard alleged private investigator KP Gosavi, who was on the raid with NCB officials, said that Wankhede would have to pay Rs 8 crore. Gosavi, who is also an NCB witness in the case against Aryan and others, is absconding.

Sameer Wankhede, who is heading the NCB probe in the case, on Sunday sent a complaint to the Commissioner of Mumbai Police seeking protection from “unknown persons” who said they were trying to falsely implicate him in the case. NCB and Wankhede also approached a special court in Mumbai against the allegations. The Anti-Drug Agency and Wankhede in their affidavits said it was an attempt to create hurdles in the case and obstruct the investigation.
