County Cricket Finale: Lancashire v Hampshire, Warks v Somerset – LIVE!

lunchtime score

Warwickshire need a wicket in 22 balls after lunch.

Wicket and Lunch at Edgbaston The game was beautifully crafted to see the game within a championship race. Hometown hero Chris Woakes was the man to strike for the Bears, eventually breaking Lewis Gregory’s defense on 68 straight lbw and to a big roar from the crowd. It sees Warwickshire need another wicket in the first 22 balls after the break for that precious third bowling point. Somerset scored 325 for eight in 106.2 overs.

Building of despair for Warwickshire At Edgbaston, with Lewis Gregory (61 off 124 balls) and Jack Leach (13 off 43) – the man whose apparent lack of batting skills cost him a Test spot this summer – despite odd games and omissions Digging a well for Somerset. The Bears need two wickets to claim full bowling points in the next seven overs, but the trouble for them is that Somerset are 53 runs behind at 314 for seven. On a flat pitch the chances of a winning charge start to dwindle.

The new ball was not doing much for Warwickshire But a replacement was called when Lewis Gregory pulled Chris Woakes (far short) for six. It didn’t take long for the umpires to decide on the switch and the new did the trick, Tim Bresnan got an inswinger to crash into Craig Overton’s front pad and there was a great celebration from the bowler. 271 for seven in Somerset, trailing by 96, after 90 overs…

Big wicket at Edgbaston With just a delivery to go before the second new ball. Bresnan gets a bit of movement and Davis, on the back foot, just fiddles outside for regulation caught behind. Beauty. And the ceremony said a lot. Davis made 52 and Somerset made 247 for six in 79.5 overs, trailing by 120 runs.

Morning from Edgbaston, Where I feel like I’m dressed like Dumb & Dumber (trucker hat, gimlet, checked shirt) character Seabes and we’re ready for an interesting third day. A light whisper of rain as I walked on the ground but it has passed and there is a mixture of blue sky and clouds above. New ball in three overs makes the latest BIG FIRST HOUR™. It will be interesting to see how quickly or otherwise Warwickshire can close this innings of Somerset, currently 239 for five, and then with the second innings of the bat. BTW, today it’s free entry for anyone in the field. Come and say hi.
