Congress’s test for aspiring spokespersons: Questions on party’s history, Indian freedom struggle and RSS

In the written evaluation test facing aspiring Congress district spokespersons under the party’s Bane UP Ki Awaaz (Be the Voice of UP) campaign, they are being asked about the Indian independence movement and the role of Congress, contribution of Congress. India’s development, and the perceived “dangerous” impact of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

The party, which on November 28 released the first set of results of the examination conducted to search for new spokespersons in Lucknow division, said the process also included a group discussion and an interview. Sources said that till now an average of 20-30 applications have been received in each district. The selection process will be held in Kanpur district on Wednesday. The entire campaign is being coordinated by spokesperson Uma Shankar Pandey, who has moved on from Youth Congress. The party said that state spokespersons have been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting the process in every district.

State Congress Media Department Vice President Pankaj Srivastava said, “We have named the campaign UP ki Awaaz and its aim is to give opportunity to the youth who aspire to be the voice of the people for the Congress at the district level. First, applications are collected. Then, we conduct a written test which consists of both objective and lengthy questions and these questions are on party history, Indian freedom struggle, RSS, Indian democracy, constitution as well as symbols like Ambedkar, Nehru. Maulana Azad et al.”

In the second part of the process, candidates face a group discussion that tests their speaking skills. It is conducted under the supervision of state spokespersons. The shortlisted candidates are interviewed before the final result is declared.

Asked whether there was any selection criteria, Srivastava said applications are being invited from all, including those who are not primary members of the party.

“Since elections are near, we have to speed up the process. We are planning to complete it as soon as possible.”
