Beirut: The detention and military court of a senior Maronite cleric in Lebanon sparked outrage among Christian leaders after a visit to his parish in Israel on Wednesday.
Bishop Musa al-Hajj, Archbishop of Haifa and the Holy Land, was detained for 11 hours and faced eight hours of interrogation after returning to Lebanon. His passport was confiscated and military court judge Fadi Aqiqi imposed a travel ban.
Al-Hajj was accused of bringing large amounts of money into Lebanon in US dollars.
