Chandigarh Police, waiting for the arrival of the victim’s NRI son, interrogated the servants

A day after a 97-year-old woman was allegedly murdered at her residence in Sector 8 ChandigarhThe UT Police on Saturday questioned the servants, neighbors and all those associated with the woman. The Chandigarh Police is also awaiting the son of the victim Joginder Kaur, who lives in the USA and is expected to arrive on Monday.

DSP Central Charanjit Singh said that the postmortem is yet to be done in the matter. “We have informed the family members, the victim’s son is expected to reach Chandigarh on Monday,” he said.

The CFSL team took samples from the spot on Saturday and took them for forensic examination.

According to sources, both the house of the senior citizen and the servant quarters in the house were vandalised. When the police reached the spot, the wardrobes in the servants’ quarters were open.

Meanwhile, the police are yet to ascertain the exact damage caused to the woman’s house as the possibility of a robbery has not been ruled out.

A police source said information about valuables and stolen items in the house would be given after the victim’s son or any family member comes to the city.

He further said that after the death of her husband, the woman was living alone in her house, which is spread over 2-3 kanals. However, her daughter-in-law lives in a separate house near the victim’s house.

The victim Joginder Kaur was found unconscious inside her residence in Sector 8. The kitchen knife used to slit his throat was also recovered.

On receiving information about the incident at around 8 pm, the team of the local police station immediately reached the spot and took the woman to Government Multi Specialty Hospital Sector 16 Chandigarh, where doctors declared her brought dead.

After preliminary investigation, investigators said that the woman’s house was vandalized and her throat was slit. The body of the woman has been kept in the mortuary of GMSH-16 for post-mortem. An FIR has been registered under sections of murder in Sector 3 PS, Chandigarh.
