It occurred just after 11:30 a.m. on Colfax Avenue in Clifton, where it intersects with the Garden State Parkway. Newscopter 7 had reached the spot while the crew was working to clear the vehicle.
The driver, who is a witness, described as a woman aged 50, suffered non-fatal injuries and was taken to St. Joseph University Medical Center.
At this point, it’s unclear why he lost control, but the car sped away long enough before finally stopping.

Witness Karl Heifel said, “She was not badly hurt.” “One thing that astounded me was the integrity of the car. She was able to open the driver’s door after the entire trip and fell down a 10- or 12-foot embankment. She was able to get herself out of the car.” To see it, to walk around.”
Heifel said he heard he might have a tractor trailer on his front lawn, but when he got out, he could only see a big mess.
There were scattered pieces of various sets of fences, and there was a hole in his neighbor’s garage.
“She must be moving, really walking,” he said. “He more than likely did a few hundred feet on the parkway before we got to our fence.”
The car crashed into the air conditioning unit and completely missed slamming into the townhome.
The reason for the driver’s loss of control is yet to be ascertained and the matter is under investigation.

It’s not clear if speed was a factor, but Heffel said it wasn’t the first time he’s seen a crash in the area.
“I’ve been in this house for 48 years,” he said. “I’ve seen cars come up the parkway twice. This first one has come through the fence.”
