Britney Spears to conclude parenting hearing in November, judge suspends dad

LOS ANGELES: A Los Angeles judge on Wednesday set a November hearing on whether to end the controversial conservatism that has governed the personal and business affairs of pop star Britney Spears for 13 years.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penney also suspended the singer’s father, Jamie Spears, from protracted surveillance of his daughter’s $60 million estate.

“The current situation is not good. This reflects a toxic environment that requires the suspension of Jamie Spears, effective today,” Penney said during the controversial three-hour hearing. His hearing is to be held on November 12.

The decisions marked a major victory for the “Circus” singer, now 39, who has struggled for years to break free from the legal system. She did not attend Wednesday’s hearing, but was represented by her lawyer, Matthew Rosengart.

Penny said Jamie Spears would be replaced on a temporary basis by an accountant, John Zabel.

#FreeBritney fans, who gathered outside the courtroom in Los Angeles, cheered as soon as they learned of the judge’s decision. Pop singer Cher tweeted: “I’m thrilled to have her. Bless our superstar.”

Jamie Spears has been in charge of her daughter’s business affairs since 2008, when she established a comprehensive, court-approved guardianship after a mental breakdown. Details of his mental health were never revealed.

The singer’s father made a surprise request in early September to end her guardianship, but argued that she should stay in her role to smooth the transition.

However, Rosengart demanded that she be suspended immediately, saying that her presence in such an important role was detrimental to her daughter’s well-being.

A New York Times documentary released last week alleged that the singer’s phone and bedroom were damaged by security personnel working for her father. A former security staffer said conversations with friends, her children and her previous lawyer were supervised.

Jamie Spears has said that his actions were within his authority as a mentor.

Spears stepped up her efforts to break free of the stereotype in June, telling the judge in her first public comments that she found it disrespectful and disrespectful.

Public support for her has grown since then, and some restrictions have been eased, according to Spears’ complaint. They got the freedom to drive their own car.

Two weeks ago she announced her engagement to 27-year-old Sam Asghari, her personal trainer boyfriend of more than four years. The pair hope to get married soon after negotiating a pre-marriage agreement.
