Canadian government says that to evict British Prime Minister Boris Johnson Will not affect Canada’s negotiations on a free trade agreement by his party.

A spokeswoman for International Trade Minister Mary Ng says talks for the new deal will go smoothly because Canada and the UK share a long history and close ties.

In a statement outside Downing Street today, Johnson said he would step down as prime minister following demands from Conservative lawmakers and the resignation of a string of his ministers.

He intends to remain so until a new leader is elected, but is facing calls to step down immediately, including from former Conservative Prime Minister John Major.

Canada and Britain are negotiating a new bilateral trade deal after trade deals between the two under the Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement were dissolved when Britain left the European Union.
