Bengaluru police busted fake call center racket, arrested 72 employees from the city, 6 gangsters from Gujarat

Police on Thursday night arrested 72 people working at two fake call centers in Whitefield area of ​​Bengaluru along with six others from Gujarat for their alleged role in running an international cyber fraud racket. The Whitefield area is a hub for software companies and tech firms.

The police conducted searches on Thursday night after receiving information regarding operation of an organized cyber fraud racket from two facilities at the premises of Ethical Infotech Pvt Ltd and Gayatri Tech Park in Whitefield.

Bengaluru Police said in a statement, “During the raid, the police arrested around 72 callers working in the company, while the kingpin was arrested from Ahmedabad to various places in India, mainly youths from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi. Whitefield Police said, “The callers primarily targeted victims in the United States and included sending text, voice and email messages to potential targets that one of their accounts witnessed fraud, suspicious transactions or purchases.” – for example a bank account or an Amazon account – and that they are calling on behalf of the bank or Amazon to resolve fraudulent transactions.”

Police further said, “They will eventually turn their attention to gullible victims who trust callers and then chase them until they run away with their social security numbers, their bank account details, etc. take and withdraw money through various means such as untraceable money transfer apps such as Amazon gift cards, crypto-currencies and even wire transfers.”

Police said that the accused used to take the employees away using school vans to hide their actions. Personnel from two police stations of Whitefield Division were involved in the operation.

Mahadevapura police have reported seizure of 132 desktops worth Rs 1 crore and Rs 15 lakh in cash, while Whitefield police have reported seizure of 127 desktops, four laptops, 150 headphones, six internal hard disks, six laptops and six laptops. Two cases have been taken up and special investigation teams have been constituted to find out more about the conduct of the fraud and the extent of the fraud.
