All together for a stronger Europe in 2023

In 2022, we were all shocked to see the return of war to the continent of Europe. These holidays, our thoughts are primarily with the people of Ukraine who are fighting for their freedom. So far, Europe’s response to this crisis has been marked by unity.

Our political family called for stronger support for the Ukrainian people, their future membership of the European Union, and tougher sanctions on Russia.

Our political family called for stronger support for the Ukrainian people, their future membership of the European Union, and tougher sanctions on Russia. We want this support to continue in 2023, because the security of Ukraine and the security of European citizens are intertwined.

The Russian invasion had a knock-on effect that has affected us all. With regard to the European energy market in particular, this is why we led the call for a pan-European response that provides an energy shield for citizens and businesses. We successfully campaigned for a windfall tax across Europe on the windfall profits of energy companies.

Wildfires and drought in the summer of 2022 showed the scale of the climate emergency facing us. In 2023, we will continue to invest in renewable energy projects and campaign for faster permits for renewable energy projects while reducing our reliance on fossil fuels.

Tackling climate change through rapid emissions reductions, protecting Europe from dangerous climate impacts, and halting and reversing biodiversity loss are interlinked challenges, and we are committed to delivering on the ambition of the Green Deal.

The war in Ukraine, combined with the ongoing challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, has had a negative impact on the purchasing power of EU citizens. We have developed an action plan on food security to reduce stress in global food supply chains.

At a time when many global players, such as China, and even our closest allies such as the US, are adopting nationalistic economic policies and deepening trade disputes, the EU must adapt by strengthening trade agreements.

At a time when many global players, such as China, and even our closest allies such as the US, are adopting nationalistic economic policies and deepening trade disputes, the EU needs to strengthen trade agreements and open strategic Adaptation should be achieved by gaining autonomy.

In 2023, we will prioritize the Semiconductor Chips Act and a new European law on critical raw materials, so that without free movement for resources and products in ‘third countries’ – non-EU member states, or in the Schengen Area – on our Dependency can be reduced. On whom we will rely in future. We will be tireless in arguing for a more prosperous and competitive Europe, based on modernity and an awareness of the importance of harnessing the technologies of the future.

We cherish the EU for peace and prosperity, but we do not accept the status quo: the EU, its institutions and its policies must adapt to developments around us. We want to see the reforms proposed by citizens implemented during the Convention on the Future of the EU, including changes to the EU Treaties.

We see a growing pressure on liberal democratic values. Even in our union, populist leaders continue to undermine liberal democratic institutions. Taxpayers’ money needs to be protected from those who undermine EU values, and investor confidence needs to be restored.

For women, the best remedy for those who wish to curtail fundamental rights of the LGBTQ+ community is to empower citizens and expand existing rights.

We believe that the best remedy for those who wish to curtail the fundamental rights of women for the LGBTQ+ community is to empower citizens and expand existing rights. The conclusion of an ambitious directive on pay transparency to end gender discrimination in the workplace is high on our 2023 agenda. We want to tackle gender-based violence. Following the recent creation of the European Child Guarantee, Renew Europe wants member states to step up their efforts in the fight against child poverty.

We want to finalize the asylum and migration package to guarantee a migration policy that is fair, humane and based on reason. It should specifically protect women, children and LGBTQ+ people, and introduce new legal channels for labor migration.

In external affairs, we will continue to fight for a stronger voice for the EU on the world stage, and for a Europe that defends and protects. To ensure that the EU is able to defend itself and ensure the stability and security of our region, the EU must broaden and modernize the use of its collective defense clause. The EU should strengthen its presence with key allies and strengthen its partnership.

A strong Europe with zero tolerance for corruption and dealing with foreign interference.

A strong Europe with zero tolerance for corruption and dealing with foreign interference. In the wake of the ‘Qatargate’ scandal, we want justice, but also real reform to protect our democracies from foreign interference and achieve increased transparency within our democratic life.

In 2024, European citizens will cast their vote in the European elections. Voters will face a ‘sliding door’ moment: Renew Europe’s proposal to unite and create a stronger, more autonomous European Union for tomorrow’s world, or risk retreating to fragmentation.

We must ensure that Europe, together with its allies, shapes the world of tomorrow, not dictator Putin and autocrat Xi. 2023 cannot be the moment to rest on our laurels, we demand a Europe that is in sixth gear, not neutral. We are ready to make 2023 the year of delivery for European citizens!
