Ahmedabad city sees ‘increasing trend in new Covid cases’

Ahmedabad city continues to see an “increasing trend in new cases”, confirmed a health official of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).

42 new cases were registered in AMC jurisdiction on Sunday COVID-19There has been a substantial increase in the less than 10 cases being reported in the city in the first week of May.

An AMC health official said that though no specific cluster has been reported, most of the cases are being reported from the western part of the city in areas like “Bodakdev, Thaltej, Navrangpura, Paldi”.

According to the official, the current cases are being traced back to persons showing symptoms, who then get themselves tested and not because of proactive testing surveillance by the AMC.

“Last time (during the third wave) we saw the start of the boom in the western part of the city. Booster uptake is reduced because it is paid for and (the effect of two doses) vaccination may have been far less. Testing has also been low and we are planning to increase it now. We are also going to improve contact tracing of positive patients. Being a metro city, there is a constant movement of people in and out of the city. Mask compliance has also gone down,” the official explained.

Every day 20 cases are being reported in the city since 30 May (25), 34 new cases have been reported in the city on 31 May, 21 new cases on 1 June, 27 new cases on 2 June and 26 new cases on June 2. June 3 and 4 respectively. With Sunday’s tally, the city has added 201 new cases in a span of seven days.

Ahmedabad city’s new cases on Sunday comprised 61 per cent of the state’s new cases. Ahmedabad has 200 active cases till Sunday out of the total 340 active cases across the state. Thus, about 60 per cent of the state’s active cases load is being carried by Ahmedabad city, according to data from the state’s Covid-19 dashboard and the daily health bulletin by the state government.

Ahmedabad district – including the city and rural limits – tested 1,800 asymptomatic samples on June 4. On June 4, only around 19,000 samples were tested across the state.

The city of Ahmedabad hosted the second qualifier and final matches of the IPL last week, which saw a crowd of nearly one lakh people for the final match. The city is a reason to celebrate Travel After two years of Covid-19 restrictions in full swing on 1 July.

The increase in cases in Ahmedabad city has also increased the state’s overall record of daily cases – a total of 15 new cases were reported from Gujarat on 22 May, the state reported 50 new cases on 1 June, 56 new on 4 June Cases – A total of 68 new cases were reported on Sunday.
