Ahmed Masood, the son of Afghanistan’s most famous anti-Taliban fighter, said on Thursday he was “ready to follow in his father’s footsteps” as he mobilized his forces in the Panjshir Valley northeast of Kabul – the country’s last holdout.

Masood is the son of renowned anti-Soviet and anti-Taliban leader Ahmed Shah Massoud, who was assassinated in 2001, two days before the September 11 attacks on the US.
