About 50 firefighters blew up Crickford Road that caused the explosion – Kingston | Globalnews.ca

About fifty firefighters from five stations responded to the fire on Creekford Road just after 2:30 p.m. Monday.

The fire started at Pat Rogers Towing and Auto Recycling, a local business on Creekford Road between Barridge Drive and Gardeners Road.

Kingston Fire and Rescue’s chief fire prevention officer Ted Posadowski says the fire started in a service garage.

“The fire was caused by routine service maintenance, or operations within that garage, so we are not treating this fire as suspicious at all,” Posadowski said.

Police sealed off Creekford Road for several hundred meters on either side of the business.

“There were reports of explosions or loud noises within that area and what were various cylinders that heat up and explode, so we wanted to have a safe perimeter,” Posadowski said.
