43-year-old man passes Maharashtra class 10 board exam, but son fails

A 43-year-old man from Pune and his son both appeared for the class 10 Maharashtra board exams this year, but the result brought a mixed bag of emotions for the family as the father passed the exam while the son failed.

The results of the annual 10th examination conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education were declared on Friday.

Bhaskar Waghmare, who had to drop out after class VII and take up a job to support his family, was keen to resume studies. After a gap of 30 years, he appeared for the exam this year along with his son.

Waghmare, a resident of Babasaheb Ambedkar Dias Plot in Pune city, told reporters on Saturday, “I always wanted to study more, but could not do so earlier because of family responsibilities and to earn my livelihood.” Evening.

“For some time, I was keen to resume studies and do some courses which would help me earn more. So, I had decided to appear for class 10 exam. My son was also appearing for exams this year and it helped me.” Waghmare said he used to study every day and prepare for exams after work.

Though now he is happy to pass the exam, he is sad that his son failed in two papers.

“I will support my son in the supplementary exams (conducted for students who have failed in certain subjects) and I hope he passes them,” he said.

His son Sahil also had mixed feelings.

“I am glad that my father did what he always wanted to do. But, I will not give up either. I will prepare for supplementary exam and try to clear the paper.

According to the results announced on Friday, overall This year the pass percentage was 96.94 percent,

Students appearing for the exam this year were given an additional 30 minutes to complete the paper and for their convenience, their own schools were allowed as exam centres.

Last year (2020-21), the exam was canceled due to increase in COVID-19 Cases and results were prepared on the basis of marks obtained in class 9 examination and as per internal assessment of class 10. The pass percentage for 2020-21 was 99.95 percent.
