Yogendra Yadav suspended from Samyukt Kisan Morcha for a month

Swaraj India leader Yogendra Yadav has been suspended from the United Kisan Morcha (SKM) for a month. After meeting the deceased, the farmers deliberated on this decision. BJP member’s family Lakhimpur Kheri where four farmers died.

While Yogendra Yadav expressed sympathy for the family of the driver, the visit “did not reflect well for the farmers’ movement”.

“It was decided to suspend Yogendra Yadav from the Morcha for a month. His meeting with the driver’s family did not cast a good light on the farmers’ movement. The Leader shall not be associated with the SKM or any of its meetings during this time period. He along with other farmers may participate in the protests in the meantime,” said Ruldu Singh Mansa, president of Punjab Kisan Union, Mansa.

According to farmer leaders, Yadav will not be allowed to speak on the stage and can participate only at protest sites. He said the leaders would also not attend the core committee discussions next month.

On October 12, Yadav had gone to meet the family of Shubham Mishra, who was killed in retaliation after a vehicle rammed into the protesting farmers. Yadav had tweeted, ‘While returning from martyr farmer tribute, I went to BJP worker Shubham Mishra’s house. The family was not angry with us. They just asked, are we not farmers? What was the fault of our son? Why did your colleague say action-reaction? His questions are ringing in my ears.”

Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait, during a press conference in Delhi, had said that people other than farmers who had died Lakhimpur Violence was a “reaction” and cannot be construed as violence.

One of the major points of discussion during the meeting was that Yogendra Yadav’s visit went against the stand of the SKM on the matter.
