Ye’s deal to buy conservative social media app Parler is called off

Conservative social media company Parlor said Thursday that a deal to be bought by Yeh has been closed.

The rapper, formerly known as Kanye West, agreed to buy the app for an undisclosed sum in October. Ye has made repeated and public anti-Semitic comments in recent months, and several business partnerships involving the musician have been terminated.

“The companies have mutually agreed to cease the intended sale of Parlour,” the app’s parent company said in a statement to CNBC. “This decision was made in mid-November in the best interest of both parties. Parlor will continue to pursue future opportunities for growth and the development of the platform for our vibrant community.

Parler has attempted to position itself as a right-wing alternative to Twitter, which suspended Ye’s account shortly before announcing its intention to buy Parler.

“In a world where conservative opinions are considered controversial, we must ensure that we have the right to freely express ourselves,” Yeh said in a statement released by Parlor at the time.
