Brie had suffered two brain bleeds, a thoracic spine fracture, fractured ribs and broken teeth and was left with a weakened left side of her body.

A crowdfunding campaign was set up three days after her hospitalization, raising more than £26,000 to bring Bree back to her native Australia.

Her parents had asked the Australian government for special permission to see their daughter, thinking they would have to say goodbye to her – but they were not allowed to go.

Bree’s mother, Clarissa, tells doctors to leave her daughter’s life-saving equipment until they are near her.

Three months later, she woke up from a coma—but suffered from amnesia and could not remember her life—with her fiancée for another two months.

Five months after the accident, she began to recall her life before the coma and tried to call her fiancé, with whom she had been for four years, only to find that he would be ghosting her. And went ahead.

Brie told FEMAIL That when he was finally given her phone he immediately thought of calling her – only to find that he had not visited her even once.

‘There has been zero contact. I have been blocked on every platform including their phone.

‘The only contact I got was from his new girlfriend. He sent me a message saying he was insecure and blocked me on everything. go figure. I was still in the hospital’.

Looking at her behavior now, she says that it is still difficult to deal with.

‘I’m still so incredibly hurt by his actions. I have no reason or conclusion as to why he did what he did. I just feel so hurt, I can’t explain the depth of the pain it has inflicted on me.

The 25-year-old has said that she now finds it difficult to trust people - not just potential partners - because of her ex-fiancee's behavior.

‘Four years later, I was incredibly shocked. We were best friends for years. I never thought this would happen in a million years. Especially at such a terrible time in my life. I thought she was my soul mate, but I thought wrong.

She says it has made her distrustful of finding love – and people in general.

‘It has definitely taken a toll on my confidence. Not only in romantic relationships but with relationships in general.

‘It has caused me to distrust people so much, especially those with whom I am close. I am trying very hard not to let his unbelievable antics affect my relationships and life.

She says seeing her parents after the accident would have helped her ‘massively’ recover from the near-death experience.

‘The doctors in Canada told my parents to come immediately because things were not looking good. I was given a 10% chance of survival and they would have to make some decisions.

‘It was lock down in the middle of Australia’ [because of the pandemic] And after gaining approval through the government to leave and say goodbye to his dying daughter, he was denied the opportunity to do so.

‘Luckily I had the best support team in Canada and they would FaceTime my parents to keep them involved in every meeting and appointment. I will never be able to thank people enough in my life.’

The 25-year-old has now moved back to Australia to be with her friends and family. She says her recovery is slow but positive.

‘As far as recovery is concerned, it is going well. I can now eat on my own and can now walk without a walking frame or wheelchair because I broke my back in an accident.

‘I still have numbness below the waist but I’ve adapted my walking style so that I can walk again. I am taking time off from work to be in Australia to recover with my loved ones. It will take some time to recover but I am looking forward to returning to work next year.

Her story has gone viral on TikTok, where she calls herself ‘hotcomgirl113’, the same username as Rebel Wilson’s character in the recent Netflix film Senior Year.

She says that speaking on TikTok is extremely important to her emotional recovery: ‘I decided to speak up as a way of expressing my bottled-up feelings. I never thought making a simple 30 second video would have as much impact as it would have.

‘I’m glad I can now spread awareness about traumatic brain injuries and their aftermath. It is not just a temporary injury but a lifelong injury that will affect my mindset and physicality for the rest of my life.

Despite her ongoing injuries and the loss of her long-term relationship, Brie told FEMAIL that she has tried to appreciate what she has.

She explains: ‘The emotional toll of being so close to death has affected me in a positive way. I am so grateful for the little things in life now that I take it lightly and have a much greater appreciation for life.

‘My experience has taught me how flimsy and short life is. Now I want to make the most of my life and pack it with as many memories as possible.

My only goal in life has nothing to do with monetary value, but genuine happiness.’
