Hamilton police say one person has died from injuries sustained during a fire Wednesday morning.
Firefighters react to the fire in a four-storey building Concession Alley at about 10:30 and was told that one occupant was still believed to be inside a basement suite.
The crew were able to get in and get the occupant out.
Paramedics rushed the man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
On Thursday, a spokesman for Hamilton Police confirmed that a 68-year-old hospitalized woman had died from injuries.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control, but officials said the building was heavily damaged. However, no one else was reported injured.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office has been contacted and is assisting with the investigation.
