Witness shares story of being at Genesee Valley Mall as gunshots begin

Terrible moment for some shoppers after a gunfight broke out in Flint Township’s Genesee Valley Mall in central Michigan Saturday afternoon, police said.

Officials say two people were shot and their condition is said to be critical. At around 3 pm, shots were fired near the JC Penney wing.

“I’ve never experienced anything like this,” said an anonymous shopkeeper. “I went to the mall to visit a girlfriend and she wanted to get sneakers at the villa.”

TV5 spoke to one of the shoppers who wanted to remain anonymous and shop around.

The shopkeeper said, “I was looking at the shoes and then I heard that gunshot and I heard another one and then I booked it and started running.”

The woman said that she heard several gunshots in the mall and immediately ran to safety.

“I literally had to run after a group of men who were fighting to get out of the store,” said the shopkeeper.

Once the woman made it outside the mall, she was able to visit her friend, who was also intimidated, but thankfully fine.

This is the second shooting at the mall property this year, police told TV5. Earlier this year, there was firing outside the mall.

The firing took place after a fight between two groups of people. As the dispute became more violent, several handguns were removed and shots were fired between two groups of people.

Two people have been shot and their condition is critical.

The shopkeeper said, “From my point of view, it is very sad to see that these are young men that even if they are not hurt and killed, they are still wasting their lives.”

It was a close call she would not forget. The woman said it would take some time to decide whether to shop again at Genesee Valley Mall.

The shopkeeper said, “I try to do really small shopping and support the locals I think our community really needs, but I don’t see myself going back to the valley, which I did today.” did.”
