With 16 new cases of Zika virus, Kanpur crosses 100 mark

Kanpur has crossed the 100 mark with 16 more cases of Zika virus being reported.

The fresh tally of 106 cases includes nine men and seven women, including two in an advanced stage of pregnancy from the Zika epicenter in Chakeri area and a patient from neighboring Kannauj district who tested positive on Saturday.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Nepal Singh said that the 16 new patients are residents of Harjinder Nagar, Pokharpur, Tiwaripur Bagia and Qazi Kheda areas of Chakeri area.

The pregnant women who contracted the virus underwent ultrasound tests and doctors confirmed that their fetuses were healthy.

“The report received from KGMU Lucknow on Tuesday, seven women, two pregnant and nine men, have been confirmed to be infected with Zika virus. The infected persons do not have any serious symptoms. All have been kept in home isolation. Around 100 cities Teams have been deployed in the U.S. for source reduction and 15 teams for home sampling and sampling.Also, an additional 15 Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) have been deployed to check the spread of Zika virus. It is,” the CMO said.

A senior health official said a massive sampling drive is being conducted in the affected areas.

“Most of the patients are asymptomatic. Door-to-door surveys and samples of symptomatic people are being taken. Instructions have been given to take samples of pregnant women, especially those in the affected areas. Also, radiology centers have been alerted. If there is any problem in the development of the fetus, it should be immediately reported to the control room.”
