Police are warning the public about a high-risk sex offender who was recently released and lives in Winnipeg.
Leslie Wayne Oliver Mercady, 31, was released from Headingley Correctional Center on Friday after serving three months for failing to comply with the conditions of a recognizance order.
Police say Mercady has a history of violent and sexual offenses and is considered to be at high risk of re-offending in a sexual manner against children, particularly women.
He has participated in some treatment programs in the past, but is still considered high-risk.
Police say Mercady has a lengthy criminal record that includes counts of sexual assault, sexual interference, assault, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace and multiple violations of probation orders.

Mercady commits sex crimes by intimidating the victims or by offering them drugs and other inducements. Police say he also violated a probation order by being left alone with children under the age of 16.
Police say he is under a lifetime probation order that prohibits him from:
- attending a public park or public swimming area where persons under the age of 16 are present, or a daycare, school playground, playground or community center;
- Seeking, obtaining or continuing, or volunteering, any employment, including being in a position of trust or authority over persons under the age of 16 years; And
- Having contact with any person under the age of 16 unless it is done with written authorization to do so from his probation officer.
Additionally, he is subject to an identification order until November 16, 2024, with the following conditions:
- Have no contact/ communication with or presence with anyone under the age of 16
- observe a daily curfew between 10:00 pm and 7:00 am;
- reside as directed by your probation officer;
- comply with the counselling, treatment as directed by their probation officer; And
- Do not possess or use any alcohol or illegal drugs.
Mercady is subject to a lifetime arms ban.
