‘Will not succeed’: BJP’s Giriraj Singh slams ‘tukde-tukde gang’ over ‘anti-Brahmin’ slogans on JNU walls

New Delhi: Union minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Giriraj Singh on Friday (December 2, 2022) condemned the “tukde-tukde gang” after some walls in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus were defaced with anti-Brahmin slogans.

JNU is becoming a den of political parties running ‘tukde-tukde’ gang. Nation. But they will not succeed,” Singh was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

His remarks came after the walls of JNU’s School of International Studies (SIS)-II were painted with slogans asking members of the Brahmin and Bania communities to leave the campus and the country.

Some of the slogans written on the walls were “Quit the Brahmin complex”, “There will be blood”, “Brahmin Quit India” and “Brahmin-baniya, we are coming for you! We will take revenge”.

Meanwhile, JNU Vice-Chancellor Santashree D Pandit visited the building whose walls were spray painted and took stock of the situation.

He called an emergency meeting in which a number of measures were discussed to improve security on campus.

VC Pandit also interacted with the students, staff and faculty members and asked them to be vigilant so that such incidents can be prevented in future, JNU Registrar Ravikesh said in a statement.

On Thursday, he directed the dean of the School of International Studies and the complaints committee to investigate the incident and submit a report at the earliest.

According to the administration, the university also issued a six-point advisory on Friday in view of the prevailing security issues on the campus.

“All schools/centres should have a single entry/exit point. Maintenance of entry/exit register at the entry points of schools/centres. Installation of CCTV cameras on each floor of the building of schools/centres,” said the advisory.

It also asked the officials to ensure adequate lighting in the corridors.

It added that orientation programs should be organized from time to time to sensitize the JNU community.

The teachers’ and students’ bodies also urged the JNU administration to conduct an independent and impartial inquiry to ensure peace on campus.

‘Violates spirit of diversity’: JNU teachers’ body on anti-Brahmin slogans

Meanwhile, the JNU Teachers’ Association (JNUTA) condemned the incident and said it violates the spirit of diversity and tolerance of all views, which is the basic nature of JNU.

The teachers’ association has asked the university administration to immediately initiate an inquiry into the incident, identify the culprits and take action against them as per university rules.

Condemning the vandalism, the JNU Students’ Union (JNUSU) claimed that this is not the first time that this has happened in the university.

It said in a statement, “Such statements are clearly meant to vitiate the campus environment by vitiating the general condition of the campus. This is not the first time such vandalism has taken place within the university. Several incidents have happened during the past years. ,

The JNUSU alleged that the right-wing forces “have historically tried to caricature the claims of social justice in such an outrageous manner”.

The RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad has blamed the Left for the incident.
