WHO seeks vaccine efficacy data in monkeypox fight

GENEVA: The World Health Organization on Wednesday called for caution to ensure that monkeypox does not spread to more vulnerable groups such as children.
The WHO said fighting the virus required “intense” efforts, with extensive data collection and sharing of how well vaccines work against the virus.
Experts have traced an increase in monkeypox cases since early May outside West and Central African countries, where the disease has long been endemic. Most of the new cases have been reported in Western Europe.
