WHO: Monkeypox to be renamed mpox

GENEVA: The World Health Organization on Monday announced the renaming of monkeypox in English to mpox, to avoid stigma stemming from the current name.
Monkeypox got its name because the virus was originally identified in 1958 in monkeys kept for research in Denmark, but the disease is found in many animals, and most often in rodents.
