West Bengal minister and senior TMC leader Subrata Mukherjee died of a heart attack on Thursday at the age of 75 at Kolkata’s SSKM Hospital. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed grief over his death. His body will be kept in Kolkata’s Rabindra Sadan on Friday morning for the last glimpse.

Veteran leader and Panchayat Minister Subrata Mukherjee (76) was admitted to SSKM Hospital on October 25 last month after he complained of breathlessness.

At the same time, Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Shubendu Adhikari has expressed grief over the death of Subrata Mukherjee. Shubhendu Adhikari tweeted that I am deeply saddened by the passing away of veteran politician and senior cabinet minister of West Bengal Subrata Mukherjee. My condolences to his bereaved family members, fans and supporters. May his soul rest in eternal peace. Peace.

Subrata Mukherjee completed 50 years as an MLA by winning the Ballygunge seat in the April-May assembly elections. He was a minister in the Congress government in West Bengal in 1970 and has been in the cabinet in the Trinamool Congress government since 2011. He has also been a former mayor of Kolkata. Earlier, Subrata Mukherjee, who was sent to jail in the Narada sting case, was also admitted to the hospital in May due to a similar illness.
