Waterloo Region may close on-off ramp between Highway 85 and Lancaster Street Globalnews.ca

Waterloo Region says it is working with the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) as it considers closing the Lancaster Street and Highway 85 ramps in Kitchener.

It is seeking public input over the next few weeks on the Engage WR website as it looks at whether it should move forward.

The area says the entry and exit from Bridgeport and Lancaster roads causes a large number of accidents while also reducing the speed and capacity of the highway.

It states that removing the ramp would make for a safer and smoother drive on that section of Highway 85.

It also notes that getting rid of the ramp on Lancaster Street would make things safer for pedestrians and cyclists.

The area says, “The removal of the ramp will make it safer and more comfortable for bicyclists of all ages and abilities to walk across Lancaster Street across the bridge.”

It is said that the Lancaster Street ramp is not used much by drivers while other ramps can pick up overflow.
