Driftless Historium, 100 S. 2 St., is a gem of Wisconsin’s historic societies. The $1.8 million, 14,500-square-foot museum, collection, research facility and community center opened in 2017 and features artifacts from the now-closed Little Norway, former Wisconsin governor, presidential candidate and Primrose native Robert M. Contains campaign signs of La Follette. and the re-creation of a rural general store. The facility, which includes a gift shop, also houses clothing, household items, appliances, and approximately 25,000 photographs and thousands of documents. One of its latest exhibits is on the development of the living room and includes mock-ups from the 1800s, 1930s, and early 1960s.

The “Country Christmas” exhibit fits in perfectly with the mission of the Historium and comes at a time when the state has only about 6,000 dairy farms compared to the more than 47,000 it operated in 1978.

Eames’s four paintings are slightly larger than a single piece of plywood, but their sheer size allowed the artist to focus on details that would have been lost in the smaller pieces. The exhibit features small paintings from a wax mold and a 3D aluminum piece, but the larger works of Eames cannot be overlooked by visitors and provide a fitting backdrop for Brunner’s model.
