Wastenow County woman dies of rare complication from Johnson & Johnson vaccine, report says

WASHTENAW COUNTY, MICH. – This is a staggering number to be considered – COVID-19. More than 700,000 Americans have died from since the start of the pandemic.

While vaccines have been highly successful in protecting people from the virus, in rare cases, documented illnesses and even deaths have occurred.

Sandra Jacobs didn’t want to get vaccinated, but ultimately decided because she had to travel for work.

14-page autopsy report by Dr. Caplan Michigan Medicine Lists the cause of death as a complication of the vaccine.

“This is proof that it can happen,” said Jacob’s daughter, Tatum Streeter-Byrne.

Streeter-Byrne said the postmortem report confirms what she has known for months.

“Most people, they don’t want to believe that vaccines can kill someone. That’s why I wanted a report,” she said.

Grandmother Jacobs, 60, of Washington County, died less than two weeks after receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

“We can all probably name at least one person who has passed through covid, and so that response is, ‘Oh my god, I’m so sorry.’ However, when you say that my mother died from the vaccine, the reaction is not the same. It has certainly been met with a lot of skepticism,” said Streeter-Byrne.

Jacobs started experiencing headache, nausea, and chest pain shortly after taking the single-dose shot. Her doctor prescribed over-the-counter pain medication.

When she did not come to work or log on remotely, a concerned friend found her body inside her house.

“Personally I have a lot of ‘God, I wish he had waited,'” Streeter-Byron said. “It was taken off the market five days after it was found and it died two days before it was back on the market. So for me it’s like adding insult to injury at that time.”

In April, federal health officials temporarily halted the J&J vaccine after several patients developed a rare blood clotting disorder.

As of October 22, more than 15 million Americans have received the J&J vaccine. Five people, including Jacobs, are believed to have been confirmed dead.

The pathologist described her death as natural, adding that “since it is a known yet rare complication of the vaccine, it may also be considered a medical complication.”

“I know she wants her story to be heard. I know if she can help not only to influence people one way or another, but if she can help people by sharing her experience.” , so she would do it because she was that type of person,” Streeter-Byrne said.

Streeter-Byrne said she remembers the little things the most.

“If you have a question about something, you call your mom. But I don’t, I can’t call my mom,” she said. “A loss is a loss. So, if someone dies from COVID, it is as bad as someone who dies from a vaccine. So just trying to remember their human side because I don’t know that a lot of people are still doing that.”

Jacobs had some underlying health problems, including multiple sclerosis, heart disease, and obesity.

Johnson & Johnson issued the following statement:

“The safety and well-being of everyone who receives Johnson & Johnson products remains our top priority. Johnson & Johnson’s report of any adverse event about individuals receiving the single-shot COVID-19 vaccine, as well as our own assessment of the report, was submitted to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the European Medicines Agency, the World Health Organization is shared with. WHO) and other appropriate health authorities where our vaccine is authorized.”
